OUR STORY
I’ve always loved books and loved reading and learning. When I became a multilingual, multicultural teacher, I learned the power of representation, multilingualism, affirmation, and inclusivity in literature as my students’ eyes lit up and hearts echoed with familiar tunes and phrases when the pages of the books in their hands mirrored their lived experiences. It is powerful- and necessary- for all of us to see ourselves in what we read and to access reading in our languages.
Diversity, equity, and representation are at the core of The Bookery micro bookstore. While small, it is mighty in its purpose to reach beyond the shelf to provide mirrors and windows into the hearts, minds, histories, and lives of our readers. Our aim is to provide access to books that represent us. To do so, we carry books with diverse characters from diverse authors and time periods including domestic and international bestsellers in a variety of languages, from vintage classics to contemporary reads. In an effort to be as affordable as possible, in our ever-changing inventory, we provide not only new but used books, as well.
Welcome to The Bookery. I invite you to explore, experience, and enjoy!

FEATURED READ
Marie-Laure lives in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where her father works. When she is twelve, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.
In a mining town in Germany, Werner Pfennig, an orphan, grows up with his younger sister, enchanted by a crude radio they find that brings them news and stories from places they have never seen or imagined. Werner becomes an expert at building and fixing these crucial new instruments. Deftly interweaving the lives of Marie-Laure and Werner, Doerr illuminates the ways, against all odds, people try to be good to one another.

INSPIRATION
“Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become."
-C. S. Lewis
“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”
-Martin Luther King, Jr
“Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization.”
~ Mahatma Gandhi
